15 Look Ideas for Fall 2020 – Fashion Staples & Trends

Hi Friends!

2020 is one heck of a year. While I love sunshine and warm weather, I am welcoming fall with open arms this year in hopes of change (for the better) in the world! I am also OBSESSED with fall clothes! Transitioning to fall is a clothing lover’s dream because we can fully accessorize, wear multiple layers, but not have to cover it all up with a bulky coat yet!

As we transition to fall, I wanted to cover fall 2020 trends, but also fall staples in general since trends aren’t forever! Finally, I actually created 15 looks out of the trends and staples that YOU can recreate as we transition to fall! This post, especially my outfit creations, was inspired by my previous Fall Fashion Look-Book post and Pinterest (click here to check out my Pinterest profile)!

Outfit Ideas for Fall 2020

Graphic T-Shirt + Chunky Necklace

We will NOT leave graphic tees stranded in the 2020 spring/summer – they are following us into fall! But let’s make it elevated with a chunky necklace, shall we? I also added a headband and paired it with my platform Converse!

I think we are all too in love with graphic tees (and tie dye!!!) to let them go just yet, but as the weather cools we may need to ditch the bike shorts for longer pants like these ripped jeans! We could also layer a cardigan over the top, which would be so cute too!

Jumpsuit

Perfect for when the weather starts cooling down! You can dress it up to an elevated look or keep it casual too! I wore mine with a sun hat.

Shop:

Sweater + Skirt

Last year we saw a lot of skirts with sweaters tucked in – let’s let it hang loose! I paired a turtle neck sweater with a flared/flowy skirt and added booties to complete the look.

Here is another example of the sweater over skirt combo, but with a shorter skirt and knee high boots! My rule for choosing boots to go with a skirt is to keep a gap between my skirt and top of my boots – not that I love to show too much skin hehe but I just like the way it looks!

Shop:

Tunic + Leggings – Beret & Pattern Play!

This outfit is accomplishing two trends: pattern play and use of a beret! First, this is my favorite tunic and it is a paisley pattern, which I paired with faux leather leggings. Second, I found this beret on Amazon and had to give it a try! It actually came with a little cat pin (in the first photo) and a scarf (not pictured). I completed the look with lace up boots, my Gucci, and gold jewelry.

Tunic + Leggings – Color Blocking

All dark everything!!! My everyday wardrobe actually is mostly dark clothes, so I felt very comfortable in this! I paired this dark gray tunic with my faux leather leggings, black combat boots, black purse, and topped it off with a black sunhat! I did keep my usual gold accessories though for a bit of a POP!

Shop:

Vest

Vests are so easy to dress up or keep casual! Here, I stuck with the casual route, pairing it with ripped jeans and a sun hat. If I wanted to dress it up, I would wear it with a long sleeve dress and booties or faux leather leggings and a chunky necklace!

Shop:

Jean Jacket + Sweater/Turtleneck

The ultimate cozy vibes ~ jean jacket over a turtleneck! I am all about layering because I am usually cold but can’t stand to be too hot, so this is a cute solution! If you are warm, tie the jean jacket around your waist; if you are cold, wear the jacket! I dressed it down with my joggers but could be worn with faux leather leggings or a skirt to elevate the look.

On the left I stuck with simplicity and just I grabbed some sunnies as we walked on the beach, and on the right I added another level to the look with a fedora, some gold necklaces and huggie earrings!

Shop:

Leather Jacket + Sweater/Turtleneck

If you know me, you know I LOVE leather jackets, but I would not have thought to pair a leather jacket with a turtleneck/sweater! I am obsessed. As I mentioned above, I am all about layers. This is another one that you can make casual and cool OR dress up – swap out these ripped jeans for a sweater dress and booties and you have a date night out look!

Shop:

Sweater Dress + Knee High Boots

This outfit was made for the cooler weather! Not only is it cozy but its CUTE with the scarf and hat details! It is hard to tell in the photo, but the scarf has a line of red similar to the sweater color to tie them together, the hat pom pom is the same color as the tan in the scarf, and the boots, hat and scarf all have black in them! Not super matchy-matchy but still all tie together!

Shop:

Blazer + Accessories

Everyone needs a blazer in their life! Pairing beige + white with a pop of color scarf and some gold jewelry is stunning. Top it off with hair clips (mine have little pearls on them!) and you have a LEWK!

This look is actually for transitioning to fall since I paired it with shorts, but could be worn into the fall by switching to longer pants like jeans or leggings! OR, pair slacks with this and wear it to work – talk about being the envy of the office!

Shop:

Blazer + Monochromatic Moment

Monochromatic moments may be my new go-to! I paired various pink colored items (blazer, T-shirt and purse) for this bold look!

This look is also for transitioning to fall but could easily be paired with long pants of any sort!

Shop:

Neutrals + Monochromatic Moment

How aesthetically pleasing are looks composed of neutrals?? I did have to add some excitement to the look with my Fendi patterned purse, but it is ultimately monochromatic with my tan fedora paired with a white T-shirt and cream cardigan! I didn’t have any tan pants/shorts but that would be SO cute!

Shop:

Pops of Color + Return of the 80’s-90’s

Enough with neutrals – lets talk pops of color!! Fall colors are fun and all, but let’s add some bright, vibrant colors in there too! If you aren’t huge on bright colors, have one staple sweater (this is mine!) that you can revisit throughout the season!

When I shot this look, I didn’t have any mom jeans but thats what I would recommend wearing to pull off the 90’s vibe! Converse + Mom jeans = 80’s/90’S ARE ALIVE AND WELL!

Shop:

Flannel

TBH flannel reminds me of undergrad because I used to wear it literally every day, but I am so onboard for its return! What says fall more than plaid flannel??

On the left I paired it with shorts for a fall transition look, and on the right I had on some mom jeans and a front-tied t-shirt! Oh and my PSL of course!
